Hey y’all! So, after over a year and a half of slowly gathering things that I knew the girls would love from here, there, and everywhere, I FINALLY finished decorating Skyler and Nia’s shared “big girl” room! When we brought Nia home, we decided on a nursery nook for her inside of our bedroom until she started sleeping through the night (HIGHLY recommend for new moms). As we got closer to that milestone, we contemplated whether we should transition her into her own room or share a room with Skyler. There are pro’s and con’s of either approach; but my husband and I both kept bringing up the fond memories that we each had of sharing a room with our younger siblings growing up. Him and his brother are the same number of months apart as Skyler and Nia, and my younger sister and I are 1 more year apart than our girls. Ultimately, we decided that, although we have the space to have them in separate rooms, we wanted them to have a chance to develop that bond and make lifetime memories for as long as they wanted to. We also asked Skyler for her thoughts, and her 3-year-old self was all for sharing, so that’s what we did!
Some of you may know this, but we didn’t find out whether Skyler was a girl or a boy until birth, so her first nursery in our old house was gender neutral (you can see our room tour here on our YouTube channel). It was a “Dr. Seuss” theme that had a neutral grey base with pops of vibrant colors. We carried that decor right into our new house, so it was definitely time for a change for her. Once we decided to move Nia in with Skyler, and knowing that I had 2 girls (and Skyler is certainly a “girly girl”), it was finally my chance to design a room as girlie as humanly possible. Naturally, I went with probably the girliest decor theme on the planet… thus, the transition to a “Princess Room” commenced.
I wanted it to be something that could grow with them, so I kept the colors pretty simple with white, shades of blush pink and coral, and gold accents. A bonus was that Nia’s nursery nook decor was pink and coral, so her items easily transitioned into the room.
Before adding pictures and sourcing for everything that I can (a little difficult since this project spanned over a year), here’s a highlight of a few of my DIYs that pulled the room together.
